Bard IVC Filter HelplineThe Bard IVC Filter Helpline has just found out from our IVC Filter lawyers that the IVC blood clot capture filter lawsuits are increasing. NBC News has just televised a news report about the safety issues associated with the G2 Retrievable IVC Filter. Tje IVC Filter is a blood clot filter marketed by C.R. Bard, Inc. IVC filters, such as the G2 and Recovery filters , are used to prevent pulmonary embolism in patients for whom anticoagulant medications are not appropriate. These wire implants are placed in in the inferior vena cava. This is the body’s largest blood vessel. They catch blood clots before they can travel to the heart and lungs.
IVC Filter InjuryThe Recovery IVC filter had been associated with more than 300 non-fatal injuries and 27 deaths before it was replaced with the G2 series. Among other things, the report disclosed a confidential study commissioned by Bard in 2004 which linked the Recovery IVC filter to higher rates of death, fracture and movement compared to its competitors. Like the G2, Bard opted not to recall the Recovery filter, and instead allowed it to remain on the market for three years. Roughly 34,000 devices were sold.
IVC Filter LawsuitsCourt records indicate that at least 72 Bard IVC filter lawsuits involving the G2 and Recovery products are now pending in a multidistrict litigation underway in the U.S. District Court, District of Arizona. Among other things, plaintiffs claim that Bard was aware that the Recovery and G2 IVC filters were associated with high rates of fracture, migration and tilting, which may result in perforation of the inferior vena cava, embolization and other life-threatening complications. Pradaxa Lawsuit Filed for Internal Bleeding, Pradaxa helpline Concerned for seniors and Internal beleeding from Pradaxa
A couple in Lafayette, Louisiana reportedly filed a Pradaxa lawsuit earlier this month for serious bleeding problems and the subsequent need for surgery.
According to reports, Garland Lege and his wife Patricia filed a lawsuit March 5 against Boehringer Ingelheim. The pharmaceutical company makes Pradaxa which has been criticized for causing internal bleeding.
The couple, reportedly, claims that after taking the heart medication Pradaxa®, Mr. Lege endured internal bleeding of the gastrointestinal tract. He needed to be hospitalized for two weeks for the bleeding problem. Then, to control the bleeding, doctors had to perform numerous medical procedures on the patient. This included an operation to remove part of his colon.
The lawsuit says that Boehringer failed to sufficiently warn healthcare professionals as well as consumers about the bleeding dangers linked to Pradaxa®. The suit also claims that the drug company did not adequately tell doctors how to stabilize patients once they began uncontrollable internal bleeding.
The defendants in the lawsuit are Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GmbH & Co KG, Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH, and Bidachem S.p.A.
The Leges demanded a jury trial. The case will be heard in the Louisiana Western District Court, Lafayette County.
Pradaxa® is an anticoagulant medication. It is prescribed to keep blood from clotting and prevent heart attacks and strokes. In January, the Archives of Internal Medicine published an article saying a recent study showed patients had a higher risk of heart attack on Pradaxa® than patients on the competing drug Warfarin or patients taking a placebo.
Pradaxa® received U.S. Food and Drug (FDA) approval in October 2010. About 15 months later, in December 2012, the U.S. FDA issued a safety alert about the drug’s potential to cause serious internal bleeding.
